NORTHERN FREE STATE BULL TERRIER CLUB
Championship Show - 17.09.2006

JUDGE - MR GARY EVANGELIDES (Rhinestone Bull Terriers)

I would like to thank the committee for putting on a great show and after show party, well done to all of you.

The weather was not great with a cold wind and sporadic rain, none the less I really enjoyed judging this show. A big thank you to Martin La Cock my ring steward who did a very professional job.

The results are as follows:

DOGS
CC Dog & Reserve Best Of Breed -
   NAVADA EYE BANDIT

Owned & bred by : David Jones

This dog has something that our breed desperately needs and that is a long neck flowing into a very short back giving him perfect balance with super back-line standing and on the move. He has a classical well filled head the top of the skull and muzzle are almost the same width with well placed eyes and superb expression with a perfect scissor bite. He still needs to tighten up a bit in front, which he should with exercise and maturity. He has a well bent stifle and most importantly a well develop second thigh, which enables him to move correctly with drive from behind. He is a very well balanced Bull Terrier with outstanding virtues.

RCC Dog & Best Head -
   CARRADICE FREE SPIRIT

Owned by : Wynand Lourens

This dog has a very good head skull and muzzle also, almost the same width with a perfect scissor bite. His profile is more pronounced than my CC winners but his front is not his forte. His hindquarters are very good and he moves parallel from behind but toed in, in front. I have no doubt that he will become a champion.

In the Champion Class I had a great favorite of mine - CH DAJAN SKIES THE LIMIT OF SANDAWANA [IMP], who unfortunately was out of condition. Too much weight had been taken off him and being a heavyweight dog he needs to be at the correct weight for his size. He just did not look the part today plus he was an unhappy dog in the rain. Unfortunately I had to judge, what the Bull Terriers looked like on the day.

BITCHES -
CC Bitch -
DELVINO C'EST SI BON OF LUBJAN

   Owned by : Jannie Lubbe

This is very good bitch indeed with a good head, nice profile and correct scissor bite. I would have liked a bit more length to her head and a little more fill in the muzzle to complete the picture. She has very good substance and bone and very good well muscled, hindquarters with a good bend of stifle. She moved very well but toes in, in front.

RCC Bitch -
   CH DAJAMANI DANCING CARLA

Owned & Bred by : DJ Coetzee

She has a strong well, filled head and turned head with correct scissor bite and very good substance. She is a very pretty picture standing but her movement both ends is not great.

Another bitch worth mentioning is ELRU JOANIE, owned & bred by : Adri Els.  A tad long in the
back to challenge the above two girls but never the less, a good bitch. The gap between these three bitches and the rest on show was far too big. We have definitely lost great depth of bitches that we always had in the past.

BEST IN SHOW -
   CH DAJAMANI VALNICO OF BELALTORS
   Owned by Nico du Preez

This bitch has very good bone and substance. Her head is well filled, and has an excellent profile with a level bite. She is very well balanced with a long neck flowing into a short back and has an excellent front with a nice fore chest and good hindquarters with a well bent stifle. Her movement is parallel both ends and was awarded BEST MOVER. To be critical she has an exaggerated roach over her lions, which is her only blemish.

To end off there was greater depth of good dogs than bitches present. And the shoulder placements is still a major problem in 90% of the Bull Terriers that I had judged. Only when we get this right will we  eliminate those terrible dips in the backs.
