2006 MAJOR TROPHY SHOW JUDGES REPORT -
Mr
Deon Schoeman

I would firstly like to start by congratulating the committee on a show that was run very professionally.  It was indeed an honor for me to officiate at this prestigious event.

During my report I will refer to some terminology that is not normally used when describing the breed and for everyone’s clarity these are mentioned below.

    Clean                    Without any indentations
Powerhouse           Muscular, maximum substance for it size

Herewith my report on the dogs and bitches that I judged -
Candlestick Trophy - Best Imported Dog
My co-judge was Mr D Harrison and we were in full agreement on the winner.

When these 2 entrants came into the ring, it was obvious that there would be very little competition for the winner – he simply stood out.

No 3 : Ch & Ch ( UK ) Neverland Housemaster at Bellmalvern (Imp UK)
This powerful white dog was very eye catching and gave the impression of being a powerhouse. Had good strong bone; was muscular and presented himself properly. With closer hands-on examination these statements were confirmed. The head is strong and well turned, deep skull throughout; and he carries his ears erect. Long strong neck goes into well laid back shoulder. What further impressed me the most - is the straight front and level top line with strong hind quarters. A small problem that was noticeable is the mouth; where the teeth are discolored and dirty – which makes them appear small and irregular. With the movement, he moves straight in front with good drive viewed from the side. He is a little close when moving away. This dog was handled professionally and deserved to be the winner of the Imported Dog Class.

No 1 : Baraddur Prince at Kilacabar (Imp UK)
This well marked brindle dog did not give the impression of power and of being superior to the eventual winner. He is muscular, but shorter on the leg than the winner. With closer hands-on examination, I found that the head needs more fill and that the muzzle is not as strong as his competitor. This dog presented himself well at times and had a good top line strong and straight. When moving from the front he is straight but lacks drive viewed from the side due the stifle not being well bent. His back movement is a little close. Both these dogs were top quality but my choice went to the more mature dog. And the decision was unanimous between judges.

Ormandy Vase (SA Bred Dog under 2 years)
My co-judge was Mrs ELA Oosthuizen, and we were in full agreement on the winner.

This was a strong class with many entrants who were impressive as they entered the ring.

The Winner of this class was - No 12 : Panomar Klaas Oxsan
A powerful agile red dog - who on entering the ring, impressed me with his ring presence, power and substance. This red dog has a very strong head, well filled with ears and a correct mouth to complement the impressive head. The head could have had a little more turn - nevertheless the broad muzzle still gave it a superior look.

The bone and substance are his greatest virtues. When judging this dog close up, one could not help go over the strong hind quarters a second time. He is also well put together and also moves well coming towards with solid drive viewed from the side, slightly close moving away.

Other dogs to make mention of in this class that competed for the title are:

No 13 : Rhinestone Ready to Rumba
of Malycwa
A much younger dog – not fully matured, but shows promise and is one to be looked out for.

No 7 : Bukavi Diesel ‘N Dust
A powerful white dog with a well turned head, good substance and very good top line.  Appeared lazy in the ring and did not show himself off enough.

No 8 : Carradice Free Spirit
This dog firstly impressed me with his presence, lovely turn in head which is strong; a long arched neck, and a short coupled body. Another good mover, but a little close moving away.

Ormandy Jug (SA Bred Dog over 2 years)
The judges were Mr D Harrison and Mrs ELA Oosthuizen.  I was called in to referee in this class between two very superior dogs who were both equally good with many virtues to offer.

My choice went to the powerhouse of a white dog No 17.

No 17 : Bukavi Titan
He has a very strong and well turned head, with correct bite. He has a short back with a level top line. It was extremely difficult to assess the movement of both exhibits as they had been in the ring for a long period and were getting bored. However, the winner when moved displayed his power with a strong drive and straight front coming towards you.

No 14 : Bonwitt Double Trouble Of Izghalo
Equally as good with a beautiful clean head and correct bite. He moves well going away and towards you. Comparing the two there was very little between them, I however opted for the more substantial dog.

Rheeder Trophy (Best Colored Dog)
My co-judge was Mrs ELA Oosthuizen.  Both of us were in full agreement on the winner.

With four entrants to compete for the Best Colored Dog, the under two year winner again stood out by far.

No 12 : Panomar Klaas Oxsan - he won this class with ease.

Wentworth Trophy - Best Imported Bitch
No 22 : High Tide Tonight of Lorderon [Imp UK]
This bitch was very shy and would not move at all, so movement could not be evaluated. She does have a very long head and with a good down turn. She is on the tall side.

Ormandy Vase (SA Bred Bitch under 2 years)
The judges were Mr D Harrison and Mrs ELA Oosthuizen.  The two judges agreed on the eventual winner, so there was no need for a referee.

The winner of this trophy was - No 33 : Ch Rhinestone Rough Gembaby

Ormandy Jug (SA Bred Bitch over 2 years)
My co-judge was Mr D Harrison.  We did not come to an agreement so the referee was called in.

The winner for this trophy was No 39.

My preference as the winner was No 41.

No 41 : Ch Delvino C’Est Si Bon of Lubjan
This lovely white bitch entered the ring with self confidence and showed her presence. She has a clean head; well filled, she showed maximum substance. The body is full of power, with heavy round bone and a level top line. Further examination of this bitch confirms the power. When viewed from the side she has a solid drive with maximum reach coming toward and moves parallel and straight. When moving away she is a little close - but still very good overall. This bitch could have competed for the Supreme title if she had had the opportunity.

Other bitches worthy of mention of in this class are:

No 39 : Ch Dajamani Dillary (This was the choice of the referee)
A very strong bitch, with a fantastic head and short coupled body. Her movement I felt let her down and she could have a stronger drive from the back.

No 43 : Ch Riberts River Rosẽ
A red bitch full of power and substance; with a powerful head; level top line and is well put together with a good top line. When moving away and coming towards she appears shy and did not show her full potential at all times. Nevertheless - an excellent bitch that could easily compete with the best.

Rhinestone Shield (Best Coloured Bitch)
My co-judge was Mrs ELA Oosthuizen.  Again my co-judge and I could not agree on one bitch to award this title to.  The referee’s choice which was mine as well, was for No 43.

No 43 : Ch Riberts River Rosẽ
As reported in the previous class this bitch did not show herself off very well. However, there was just no competition in the ring for this powerful bitch who simply overpowered the rest; and with her virtues she was the obvious winner.

Brilows Trophy - Best Colored Bull Terrier Of The Year
This was for me, a very difficult class as both these Bull Terriers in this class [the red dog and the red bitch] had something special to offer.  At the end my co-judge and I agreed on the Colored Dog for the title - No 12 : Panomar Klaas Oxsan

SABTC Victor Shield (Dog of the Year)
With the three top dogs in the ring the decision had to be made for only one winner.  As they all had excellent virtues in different areas, one could not help but look for that special something.  A unanimous decision between Nonnie Oosthuizen and myself and the title was awarded to No 12 : Panomar Klaas Oxan - with his maximum substance and presence shown in the ring at all times.

SABTC Victor Shield (Bitch of the Year)
Apart from the Import Bitch class with only one entry the other two were not judged by myself, and I only refereed the in the over two years class. Nevertheless No 33 : Ch Rhinestone Rough Gembaby was a worthy title winner - with a clean strong head, well balanced body with maximum substance and showing apparent good movement viewed from the side and rear; her front could be better.

Supreme Bull Terrier Shield & SABTC Chairman Trophy - SA Supreme Bull Terrier

Dog of the Year   - Panomar Klaas Oxsan
Bitch of the Year - Ch Rhinestone Rough

These two fantastic animals were in the ring together for the first time and what a pleasure it was to be able to judge them.

Ch Rhinestone Rough - A feminine well put together bitch with fairly good movement - fantastic head with good top line; no wonder she was awarded the title Bitch of the Year.

Panomar Klaas Oxsan - The large red dog with maximum substance full of power and showed this power in every aspect of movement; solid drive and straight front movement - lacked slightly in back movement compared to the bitch. With his level top line and strong hind quarters probably his strongest point. With the front full of power gives the impression ready for battle. The strong head and under jaw, small piercing eyes with the small erect ears – he gives the ultimate impression of being the Gladiator. This was my choice for the title of SOUTH AFRICAN SUPREME BULL TERRIER 2006.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Before I close, I would like to congratulate all the winners and to say that it was indeed an
honor to have had the opportunity to judge so many fantastic dogs and bitches - thank you.
